Welcome to CLAIRE TELLS STORIES, the blog!
My name is Claire Guérin. Yes I know, that's a strange name... Blame my french nationality, and don't worry about the pronunciation, I'll answer to about anything!
I've studied and worked as a biologist for about ten years now, and it's only at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that I've rekindled an old passion of mine, writing, and an old dream of my teenage self: to become an author. With chaotic beginnings, I am learning my way as a writer of speculative fiction.
Writing is a journey, and I'm going to share mine with you as grow as an author. In the future posts to come, you can expect about anything related to the craft: writing advice, book reviews, snippets and sneak peaks into my books in progress, flash fiction, and even poetry.
Speaking of Poetry
Here's a little taste of me, an evolving poem which I hope will grow along with me. So far, this is where we are:
This is me.
Born of salt and waves
Surfing who knows where
Playing adult fair
Fingers in the mud
Wonders animal world
Wonder for the word
Raised feet in the sand
Always stuck knee deep
Always? Travel keep
Lost on the islands
Of adoration
Then isolation
Crushed on the mountain
Of my ambition
Or my position?
Drowned in the fountain
Of his obsession
To my perdition.
Saved by the stories
That I told myself
And a leap of faith
Packing love and pain
Birthing creation
With dedication
Stories still I tell
Take my pen, my brush,
My voice you won't hush.
Eternal student
Granted I'm still a beginning in more ways than one, but aren't writers eternal students, perpetually learning and honing in on their craft? So why not share the lessons we learn along the way, why not let others learn from my own mistakes?
